Hidden Gems: Where to eat in Lake Nemi, Italy
An incredible place in a beautiful location on the outskirts of Rome
Sometimes the best places to eat aren’t anything extravagant, or particularly hidden, they are simply where the food is good and the hospitality even better.
Such was the case with this particular restaurant in Lake Nemi, Italy.
Before I tell you where it was, I think you should know my three criteria for selecting a place to eat in Italy:
1.) Italians eat there. Take a minute to observe the clientele. Are they all tourists and foreigners? If so, you may want to avoid it. Italians know their food and they eat well. If the Italians are eating there, it’s probably good.
2.) It’s not the most obvious place to eat. In my experience, in Italy, the most obvious places are the touristy places. This doesn’t mean they are bad, necessarily, but it’s a gamble and it’s usually priced for tourists. Generally, tourist food is overpriced and mediocre. Usually just around the corner or a little less visible is a more moderately priced place with incredible food.
3.) A slightly less chaotic ambiance. Admittedly, this one works against me because if the place is busy with Italians, it’s probably really good. However, I just don’t like big crowds and chaos, especially when I’m eating. I generally look for calmer place and tend to eat just outside of the normal window, so I’m not overwhelmed with chaos. In Italy, this usually means sitting down to eat no later than 1pm for lunch and 7pm for dinner.
Alright, without further ado, let me introduce you to the place I ate the most in Lake Nemi.
